Bradstone Manor

Alan recently undertook the compete restoration of the Grade 1 listed Bradstone Manor Gate House. Working with local Architects and English Heritage.

The work undertaken enabled the derelict building to be turned into self-contained accommodation. The building was covered with a temporary scaffold roof, which enabled the roof structure to be replaced with a new oak roof with a salvaged rag slate covering. When the roof was complete the floor joists were replaced with new green oak joists.

Specialist stone masons were engaged to repair the stone pinnacles and granite mullions. A new sewage treatment plant was installed, the leaded window lights refurbished, the ceilings were replaced with split lath and plaster, the wall plastering was retained where practical but replaced where necessary using traditional materials. A purpose made kitchen was installed into the circular tower and a wet room was installed into the opposite tower, the bespoke joinery was manufactured using the company's inhouse workshop.

This project has been put forward for a local award.
